New Year; New Training!

January 9, 2018 By Kerry Vital

Happy New Year!

It’s never too early to start thinking about your training for this year, and CITN is here to help! We’re only a week into 2018 and we’ve already added a bunch of new courses to our course calendar, including four new online courses and several classroom sessions in Burnaby, Victoria, Prince George and Kelowna. We’re also coming back to Whitehorse starting in February!

This year is already shaping up to be an exciting year for us; we’ll be at Buildex Vancouver in February, and various career fairs throughout the year. We will also continue to offer you some of the best and most relevant training in the industry. Have a suggestion for a course you think we should offer? We’d love to hear from you! And we are never too busy to talk about training with you; after all it is our favourite subject!

All the best to you in 2018 and we hope to see you in a course soon!

Spotlight on: Responsibilities of Joint Health and Safety Committees

August 22, 2017 By Kerry Vital

Change is afoot, and our training department is responding to it!

As of April 2017, WorkSafeBC’s changes to the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations around Joint Health and Safety committees and Worker Health and Safety Representatives makes training mandatory. Anyone joining a Joint Health and Safety Committee is required to take at least eight hours of training. ICBA is pleased to be able to offer this training as part of our continued commitment to exceptional customer service for our members and the construction industry as a whole (remember, you don’t have to be a member of ICBA to take our courses!).

Participants will learn:

  • How to use the OHS Regulation and WC Act to access health & safety requirements;
  • How to explain the roles and functions of the Joint Committee and the Worker Representatives;
  • How to perform an incident investigation;
  • How to perform a formal site inspection; and
  • How to:
    • Promote workplace health and safety
    • Assist in ensuring the health and safety program elements are implemented;
    • Conduct and participate in Joint Committee Meetings; and
    • Work cooperatively to address workers’ health and safety concerns.

Our first session is September 7 in Burnaby! We’re also offering it on October 12 and again on November 16.  Interested in taking this course or any of our other upcoming workshops? Check out the full list here.

Spotlight on: Incident Investigations

August 2, 2017 By Kerry Vital

Do you understand the principles of incident investigation? Do you want to learn more? Our upcoming Incident Investigations workshops are for you! Here’s the course description:

WorkSafeBC’s amendment to Bill 9 includes two major changes to the requirements for employer incident investigations. First, section 175 of the Act has been amended to require an employer to undertake a preliminary investigation within 48 hours of the incident. Second, section 176 of the Act is amended to require an employer to submit a full investigation report to WorkSafeBC within 30 days of an incident.

This course is designed to provide participants the required knowledge to understand the principle of incident investigations and the methods used to ensure an adequate investigation is completed. At the end of the session participants will have an understanding of the requirements for investigating incidents, the tools required to undertake an adequate investigation, methods involved in successful interviews, identifying incident causes and completing incident reports.
