Water Damage Remediation Basics – Burnaby

Water damages have significantly increased as a result of greater warming trends that contribute to significant storms and flooding, more amenities such as; bathrooms, plumbed ice and coffee makers along with poor quality products and workmanship. This has greatly impacted the insurance and restoration contractor business. Due to this substantial increase in water losses, great strides have been taken by the insurance industry to reduce the number of claims or changing coverages and control the costs of restoration.
This course considers a number of aspects associated with water damages including but not limited to:
• Understanding the role of the owner, property manager, the Broker, Adjuster, and the
contractor
• An overview of the restoration and drying process from start to finish
• How to prevent indoor or environmental issues during and after the restoration process
• An overview of how to deal with structural materials, contents and reconstruction
• How to prevent liabilities associated with hazardous materials such as lead and asbestos
• Steps taken to reduce business interruption and additional living expenses
• Contributors to the increase of claims
• The channel and importance of effective communication
This course will appeal to:

Art has been in the cleaning & restoration industry since 1988. He grew from a 2-person company doing carpet and upholstery cleaning to assisting in the growth of a company with almost 200 employees. He has served the roles of a one-man technician to being the Senior Operations Manager of a large, very successful restoration company.
He is certified by the Restoration Industry Association (RIA) as a Water Loss Specialist and a Certified Restorer, and by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification, as a Master Restorer and Cleaner. He is also a Certified Value Builder Advisor.
With the RIA, Art has proudly served on, and for a time chaired, the Water Loss Institute. He co-chaired the Restoration Council, along with serving as the Environmental Chair for the RIA (ASCR). He was on the RIA Board of Directors, was the first Chair of the RIA Canadian Council and currently services as Council Chair on the Canadian Education Committee.
He has served on the Executive Committee of the BC Association of Restoration Contractors, which is dedicated to improving workplace health and safety in the BC restoration industry.
Art has been published in many industry journals, been featured on numerous news and talk show programs and has presented to various groups including the insurance industry, property owners and managers, and industry specialists.He has also been a leader in dealing with Hoarding claims and has taught on this subject across Canada.
Art is the proud recipient of the 2011 Industry recognized, Martin L. King award for outstanding service to the industry.
This course will assist anyone with an IICRC designation to maintain their CEC requirements and also provide an update on what changes and advances are being made in the restoration industry. This course qualifies for 0.5 CEC Credit for the IICRC.
