Managing Employee Terminations (Breakfast Session) – Burnaby

November 29, 2017 @ 7:30 am - 10:30 am

  • « Negotiation Skills Workshop – Victoria
  • Trenching and Excavation Safety Workshop – Fort St John »

Dismissing employees is the toughest job an HR professional faces, so it’s essential to learn to manage terminations properly. HR professionals are the ones on the front lines that have to deal not only with the legal aspects of terminations, but also with the practical aspects of letting someone go. Make sure you have all the information you need to deal with this challenging part of HR’s responsibilities.

This breakfast presentation will explore the following topics:

• Employee misconduct and “just cause”

• The investigation

• Without cause: What do I owe?

• ESA vs Common Law in the construction industry

• Human rights and termination decisions

• The termination offer/termination meeting

Presenter: Craig Munroe, L.L.B., Partner, is a member of Fasken Martineau’s Labour, Employment and Human Rights group.

Craig represents and advises public and private clients facing labour relations and employment issues. He provides strategic, solution-based advice to clients facing complicated labour relations issues. He regularly appears before various courts and tribunals including the British Columbia Labour Relations Board, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, grievance arbitration panels, the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal, and the provincial and federal courts.

Craig has been recognized by both his peers and his clients for excellence in his field. He is the BC Director and Vice President of the Canadian Association of counsel to Employers, and has received the International Law Office’s “Client Choice Awards” as a result of a nomination and references from his clients.
